DXC: AWS Product For SAP Apps Will Help Save Businesses Money

Thanks to a partnership with Amazon Web Services, DXC Technology is making it easier for clients to move their SAP applications to the cloud with a new product that it says will also save businesses money.

DXC PaaS for SAP solutions on AWS provides clients with the full stack of SAP products in a consumption-based delivery model, enabling up to 35 percent operational cost savings, the company said. In addition, it allows clients to adjust their SAP solutions in order to address changing business needs.

’I would tell you that most of our enterprise clients are very interested in moving their SAP applications into some form of public cloud, and they might be trialing that with a dev or test system of SAP and then shortly followed by a production system,’ Sita Lowman, Offering General Manager, Platform Services at DXC Technology told CRN. ’But this is definitely a trend we’re seeing across the board from the enterprise perspective.’

Tysons, Va.-based DXC, No. 11 on the 2017 CRN Solution Provider 500, is an end-to-end IT services company with 6,000 public and private sector clients in 70 countries. Lowman said the SAP wave of clients DXC sees are businesses that have experience with AWS and who want to bring their SAP apps into the same environment as their industry specific applications.

’That’s where the operational savings come from,’ Lowman said. ’If you just look at the economics of both the operational savings, being able to run now in a public cloud, and the automation that the platform as a service and the app management provide, to clients, there’s some pretty significant cost savings that they could see as an overall cost of ownership.’

The product – which was announced yesterday, but will not be available until the end of the month -- will allow clients to incorporate application upgrades, to the latest SAP business suite or S4Hana, along with software specific to their industries.

’A use case that we’re seeing quite often is that we have a lot of clients who either are already in the cloud – and they probably have gone there with their non-SAP apps first – because that’s a good easier way to start, and now they’re ready to make that transformation occur for SAP,’ she said. ’Or we see a lot of clients who have thousands of applications and come to DXC and say ’I want you to transform and run my entire application suite, both SAP and non-SAP.’

In addition to cost savings, DXC said it backs up the product with a 99-percent service level agreement, application level disaster recovery, and a single point of accountability for stack management.

’Think of it as a service offering where we can do multiple things for that client,’ Lowman said. ’We can help upgrade those applications. We can transition those applications and then we can run them as well in the public cloud for them.’
