A leadership shakeup at Kaspersky Lab has moved new channel chief Jason Stein to lead all North American sales at the security vendor, according to a report Wednesday.
The report in CyberScoop News said that Stein, who previously served as vice president of channel, North America, will now be vice president of all North American sales for the company. Kaspersky has also named former Microsoft sales executive Don Kaye as executive vice president of regional development in North America, the report said.
CRN reached out to Kaspersky for comment on Stein's new role but did not receive a reply.
The report said the move is part of a larger leadership shuffle at the company, including the departure of North American Head Of Corporate Communications Jennifer Wood. The changes come as Kaspersky, which is globally headquartered in Moscow and has North American headquarters in Woburn, Mass., faces steep allegations of collusion with the Russian government and that use of its software poses a security risk. Further reports emerged this week that said hackers had used Kaspersky software to search for information on US intelligence programs. Multiple U.S. government agencies use Kaspersky software.
The federal government removed Kaspersky from the GSA Schedule in July, and the Department of Homeland Security said in a directive that all Kaspersky products much be removed from federal networks. Private sector companies, including Best Buy, have also taken steps to remove the company's consumer security software from store shelves.
The company's CEO Eugene Kaspersky has vehemently denied that his company is part of a broad Russian conspiracy. Kaspersky said it does 85 percent of its sales outside of Russia and also reaffirmed its commitment to the North American market, saying it plans to open three new offices in 2018 in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Toronto.
Stein only joined Kaspersky last summer as channel chief. The company appointed him in July as a replacement for former North American channel chief Leslie Bois, who left the company in December to take a channel chief role at Veracode (acquired by CA Technologies). The Kaspersky channel had been led by Senior Vice President for B2B Sales Michael Canavan in the interim and Canavan has since left the company.
Stein came to Kaspersky with a long background in the channel, though most of that experience is from outside of the security market. He most recently joins Kaspersky from Tier 4 Advisors, where he was vice president of channel. He has also held channel leadership roles at Effortless Office and PSI Network.
