Global solution provider Avnet is planning to acquire Witekio in a move to expand its software and embedded systems expertise targeting the IoT market.

Avnet on Tuesday said its planned acquisition of Witekio, formerly known as Adeneo Embedded, will use that company's expertise to help developers get past the complexity that goes with developing IoT-focused solutions.

No value for the acquisition was given. It is expected to close before year-end.

Avnet spokespeople were unable to reply to a CRN request for more information by press time.

Witekio is a Lyon, France-based software developer with a focus on IoT technology. It develops all the software layers of embedded objects and IoT, including coding at the low level, middleware, user interface, mobile and web applications, and cloud connectivity.

Witekio has 120 "Witekians" worldwide handling 300 customers and projects on a yearly basis, and claims to have enjoyed 90 percent growth over the past five years. Customers include Masabi, a London-based developer of SaaS ticketing systems for public transportation agencies; Lancome Paris, the French perfume and cosmetics giant; and Evoca Group, an Italian developer of equipment for brewing coffee and tea.

Phoenix-based Avnet, which has been developing its IoT strategy for some time, said that the Witekio acquisition complements its late December, 2018 acquisition of Softweb Solutions, a technology consulting firm that specialized in developing artificial intelligence and IoT solutions.

Once the acquisition of Witekio closes, Avnet expects Witekio's development user-centric capabilities for every layer from devices to the cloud to complement Softweb's development of cloud-based software for connecting, managing, and analyzing data.

Bringing Witekio’s embedded software and design expertise together with Avnet’s technology ecosystem will strengthen Avnet's overall solutions strategy, said Pete Bartolotta, Avnet's president of business transformation, in a prepared statement.

"With Witekio’s expertise, we can more rapidly deliver a complete hardware, software, cloud and middleware solution that delivers insights based on the customer’s specific business case," Bartolotta said in that statement.
