Domino Data Lab and MathWorks have formed a strategic relationship under which Domino’s MLOps platform will be used to manage and accelerate model development in MathWorks’ flagship MATLAB and Simulink cloud-based development and simulation environments.

The two companies say the alliance will benefit their system integration partners, including Accenture, Deloitte and TCS, who use each company’s products in large scale development and data science projects – particularly in such areas as life sciences and financial services.

“Domino focuses on enterprise cloud migration and digital transformation projects and this partnership will help large system integrators with those tasks,” said Thomas Robinson, vice president of strategic partnerships and Initiatives, in an interview with CRN.

Domino Data Lab is a rising star in the machine learning and model development arena. MathWorks’ MATLAB software is used to develop algorithms and algorithmic models for data analysis while the company’s Simulink tools run simulations, generate code, and test and verify embedded systems.

With the integration of the two vendors’ software, businesses and organizations can use the Domino MLOps platform to centralize all work using the MathWorks systems, bringing all developers and tools together.

Robinson said the integration work was spurred last year by requests from aerospace company Lockheed Martin, which uses both companies’ tools along with technologies from Nvidia in large scale projects. He said the integration work has been underway for about six months.

“This integration allows users of one of the most popular engineering and scientific research languages to seamlessly collaborate with other data scientists and open up exciting opportunities for breakthrough research,” said Nick Elprin, CEO and co-founder at Domino Data Lab, in a statement. “With Domino’s native support for MATLAB, engineers and scientists are untethered from their desktops, enabling better visibility into the entire project lifecycle and access to scalable compute on demand. This ultimately results in more accurate results at a faster pace.”

By using MATLAB and Simulink with the Domino platform, development teams can accelerate model development, gain visibility across the data science lifecycle, access different versions of MATLAB on the Domino Workbench, run simulations and optimize IT costs, according to the companies.

“MathWorks provides a comprehensive platform for solving AI challenges based on decades of supporting complex engineering projects. We empower engineers with varying AI experience by helping them build better AI datasets, tackle integration challenges, reduce risk, and continuously test AI models in a system-wide context,” said Roy Lurie, vice president of engineering for MATLAB products, MathWorks, in a statement. “Our collaboration with Domino offers data science teams a streamlined means to access cloud resources to meet the challenge of speeding research while managing budgets.”

Robinson said Domino Data Lab has been working on similar integration projects with other big data companies including SAS, Snowflake and Anaconda.

The Domino Data Lab and MathWorks alliance is being announced Tuesday at MathWorks’ MATLAB Expo conference.
