Google Cloud has snagged a former Microsoft senior sales director as its new North American head of sales and go-to-market for Google Workspace, its cloud-based suite of collaboration and productivity tools.

Lesley Broederdorf has taken the Google Cloud position after nearly 14 years in total at rival Microsoft, most recently as senior director of sales of modern work for retail and consumer product goods.

Darren Mowry, Google Cloud’s managing director of North America sales, announced the new hire on LinkedIn.

“Google Workspace has evolved over the years to be a powerful collaboration and productivity suite leveraged by fast-growing startups to large, global enterprises,” Mowry said in his LinkedIn post. “Lesley‘s experience in building teams, driving scale and speed, and delivering incredible value for customers and partners is a perfect addition to what we are building!”

On her own LinkedIn bio, Broederdorf describes herself as a “results-oriented sales strategist with 18 years of experience in the tech industry, focused on leading teams in solving problems and selling solutions that align with customers’ business initiatives.” She also has worked as Microsoft’s sales director of modern workspace, which includes Microsoft 365, the No. 2 cloud provider’s collaboration and productivity suite that includes Teams.

She joins Google Cloud as Google Workspace counts more than 3 billion active monthly users across consumer, enterprise and education.

Google Cloud rebranded its former G Suite as Google Workspace in October 2020, adding a new user experience and other features as it sought to better compete with Microsoft 365, Cisco’s Webex and Zoom. The coronavirus pandemic and remote work and learning has dramatically increased demand for collaboration and productivity tools.
