As buyers await updated models of Microsoft's Surface Hub interactive conferencing and white-boarding display, Microsoft is seeing a sharp decline in its share of collaboration display sales through distributors. Meanwhile, ViewSonic is on the upswing in the collaboration display market, according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. The research firm tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and resellers in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed.

5. Cisco Systems

San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems saw its share of the collaboration display market slide during the first quarter of the year, according to The NPD Group--to 3.4 percent from 7.3 percent during the same period the year before. Cisco offers 55-inch, 70-inch and 85-inch models of its Webex Board collaboration display.

4. Sharp

Japan-based Sharp expanded its share of the collaboration display market in Q1 to 7.9 percent, up from 3.9 percent a year earlier, The NPD Group reported. The company's top-selling collaboration display during the quarter was the 70-inch model of the Sharp Aquos Board, which ranked at No. 4 during Q1 in terms of unit sales through distributors.

3. InFocus

Portland, Ore.-based InFocus also enjoyed share gains in the collaboration display market during the first quarter, according to The NPD Group, climbing to 9.7 percent market share from 4.2 percent the year before. The quarter's top-selling collaboration display from InFocus was the 75-inch Mondopad Ultra, which ranked at No. 10 among the best-selling models through distributors in Q1 of 2019, The NPD Group reported.

2. Microsoft

Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft saw a steep drop in its share of collaboration sales through distributors during Q1, according to The NPD Group. Microsoft's market share fell to 11.4 percent, from 64.4 percent during the same period of 2018.

The decline came as Microsoft prepares to release refreshed, second-generation models of its Surface Hub collaboration display. A 50-inch Surface Hub 2S is slated to launch in June, while an 85-inch Surface Hub 2S model will go into testing in 2020, Microsoft has said. The original Surface Hub, which first launched in 2016, is available in 55-inch and 84-inch sizes.

1. ViewSonic

Brea, Calif.-based ViewSonic was the big winner on growth in the collaboration display market during the first quarter of 2019, The NPD Group reported. ViewSonic's share of collaboration display sales through distributors surged to 60.6 percent during Q1, up from 18.3 percent a year earlier.

ViewSonic landed the two best-selling collaboration display models during the first quarter of the year, according to The NPD Group. ViewSonic's 65-inch ViewBoard IFP6550 ranked as the No. 1 top-seller for the quarter, while the 75-inch ViewBoard IFP7500 ranked at No. 2 in terms of unit sales through distributors.
