Power Play: Eaton & VxRail – The Latest In Continued HCI Innovation

Implementing HCI into a client’s environment is not a risk-free proposition. Learn how Eaton’s IPM integration with VxRail clusters solves this pain point for both solution providers and customers.

Seventy percent of enterprises will run some form of hyperconverged infrastructure by 2023, according to Gartner’s 2019 Magic Quadrant for HCI. Partners add HCI into their stack because it offers simplicity, scalability and savings.

“HCI uses these small building blocks of virtualized network, compute and storage, and it creates this nice, robust environment that makes it more maneuverable,” says Elizabeth Bagnas, alliances and OEM product manager at Eaton. “It makes it more cost-efficient to build out. Better yet, you really don’t have to have the technical expertise to be able to maintain it.”

Implementing HCI into a client’s environment comes with some risk. Power disruptions can become more prevalent if there isn’t enough battery backup to complete a data transfer. This can lead to serious data loss and financial implications for customers.

“We actually had an end user that needed to be able to properly shutdown the VxRail system during unplanned power outages,” says Bagnas, “because in those cases, they’d either need to stop all operations, if the data was in any way compromised, or just have to restart the whole thing all over again.”

Eaton has solved this problem by integrating its Intelligent Power Manager software with VxRail systems. This lets partners perform smooth, automated shutdowns of VxRail clusters for enhanced business continuity. “The partner is really going to be a hero as a result of it,” says Stephanie Durden, West Coast channel marketing manager at Eaton. “It puts them in a position to win more opportunities, be more competitive and be more profitable.”

Eaton provides other valuable savings to solution providers selling VxRail. This includes everything from a free onsite power assessment to the Powered by Eaton Deal Registration Program – which extends a significant discount for Eaton’s highest-level partners on all solutions sold with a VxRail system.

“We will continue to lead in providing innovative products for our partners and our end users and providing the types of products that will meet their needs and exceed their expectations and providing them a complete solution,” says Durden.
