MSP Awecomm Focusing On Strategic Partnerships In 2022

From revenue to staff size to client base, MSP Awecomm is seeing steady growth, which is now giving the MSP leeway to focus more on strategy.

For MSP Awecomm, the steady growth it saw in 2021 is putting it in position to build stronger, more strategic partnerships with its technology vendors.

The Troy, Mich.-based MSP grew its staff by 35 percent and its client load by 80 percent.

“Now that we are growing and adding more people, adding more resources, working with more companies, we’re able to build some stronger strategies,” said Brent Yax, CEO of Awecomm, a company featured on CRN’s 2021 MSP 500 list in the Pioneer 250 category.

Awecomm has maintained roughly 30 percent revenue growth per year over the last 4 years. As a result, the company landed in the Inc. 5000 fastest growing private company list this past year.

“This year is about finding the partners we can work with in the channel, that can help us automate, help increase our productivity internally,” Yax said.

With that growth, Awecomm now has the resources to focus on strategic partnerships.

“We are looking at more automations, we’re looking at ways we can use partners more effectively, reaching out to their programs to see how they can help us, and trying to keep pace,” Yax said.

At the end of 2020, Awecomm was made up of a team of 18 people. The company added 14 positions in the ensuing year, including filling out its senior leadership team with a president, COO and CIO.

Since Awecomm has more people to handle the workloads, the Yax said he can now step away from some of the operational tasks and focus on strategic priorities.

As the company continues to look for candidates to fill remaining open positions, Yax CEO said support from its technology partners is key.

“We’re really going to have to leverage using them more, leverage some more services that they have, find partners in the channel that are great at helping us through some of those growing pains,” he said.

Networking and establishing a presence in the channel community are also top priorities for the new year, he said.

“We’re going to get more [people] from my company involved in the channel and do more of the events, meet more people, get engaged a little more with the different companies, and just see how we can handle that growth for 2022.”

Up until this point, Awecomm growth came from sales and marketing tactics, but now the CEO is considering buying other companies.

“We want to expand it at a decent pace and that might be for us in 2022 looking for some business to acquire. So that’s exciting. That’s new for us. That’s something we’ve never done before.”
