WATCH: 5G Moments You Missed At MWC 2019 (Like A Surgery Performed Live)

5G took the spotlight at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, where those attendance were eager to show off the latest innovations of the super-fast network.

Among the eye-catching moments was a surgery performed by Dr. Antonio Maria de Lacy. Dr. de Lacy was three miles away from the hospital when he directed his team through a gastrointestinal surgery live on stage at MWC. He guided the surgeons through a live video link enabled by 5G.

A 5G-enabled robot also turned heads. The XR-1 Cloud Robot, developed by the robotics company CloudMinds, served up coffee at the show. Its intelligence is store in the cloud and it gets sent to the body by 5G. The robot has 34 smart joints, allowing it to perform gestures and movement. But, it can also be programmed to use additional gestures learned through imitation and example.

It all comes as tech giants say 5G is ready for prime time. Sprint, Verizon and AT&T all shared details on their 5G plans for 2019. Check out CRNtv’s video for more coverage.
