Intelisys, a ScanSource company, wants to help the agent channel profit from emerging opportunities around wireless and IoT.

Cloud Services University, master agent Intelisys' education program for solution providers that covers a variety of cloud-specific technologies topics and sales techniques, now includes a Wireless/IoT Professional Certification track, the master agent said at its annual 2019 Channel Connect event.

The "massive" growth opportunities now consist of things that the telecom channel just a few years ago didn't see within reach, Jay Bradley, president of Petaluma, Calif.-based Intelisys, told CRN. The latest certification is aimed at helping partners address customer needs around wireless and IoT use cases.

Cloud Services University is a self-paced learning program that includes general technology training by category, as well as training on specific products or providers. The core curriculum lessons for the Wireless/IoT Professional Certification Track were developed by Intelisys' Solutions Engineer Bob Faber, the company said.

The initial wireless providers and IoT specialists that the certification track will focus on include five Intelisys suppliers: Advantix Solutions Group, Broad Sky Networks, Globalgig, Matrix and Viasat.

Onward Communications, a Portland, Ore.-based telecom and cloud consulting company and Intelisys Platinum partner, puts all of its employees through Intelisys' Cloud Services University trainings. The company plans to take advantage of the latest Wireless/IoT track, said Tricia Ward, founder and managing director of Onward Communications.

"I'm so intrigued by what IoT can do and I've been really thinking about where the application is, so that kind of training is helpful," Ward said.

ScanSource has invested more than $100 million in Intelisys since it acquired the company in 2017, making it the biggest—and best—deal that ScanSource has made, said Mike Baur, Greenville, S.C.-based ScanSource's CEO. The company is investing in emerging technologies, one of which being IoT, he said of the new certification.

"We are investing in these places—this is the road map, the blueprint," he said. "These areas will drive our growth for next year and beyond and where we are making our big bets."

Intelisys launched Cloud Services University in 2015 and has rolled out the Telecom Solutions Professional, U.K. Telecom Solutions Professional, Advanced Data Networking Solutions Professional, Unified Communications as a Service Solutions, Network and Data Security, Cloud Computing Solutions Professional, Advanced Cloud Methodology Expert and Contact Center as a Service Solutions Professional certification tracks.

Intelisys said more than 5,100 certifications have been achieved by Cloud Services University solution provider attendees.
