Crowds couldn’t take their eyes off the ABB robot at HPE Discover 2019.A double tap on its arm and the robot jumped into action. It’s one of the many ways HPE is transforming traditional manufacturing with solutions developed hand-in-hand with its partners.

“We are taking a lot of techniques and tools that we’ve been doing in the data center with traditional IT for the last 20 years and starting to apply it in a different area, so these are technologies that traditionally haven’t been in an industrial environment or operational area,” said Tripp Partain, CTO of Converged Servers, Edge and IoT Systems.

HPE’s solutions leverage automation and edge computing to yield deeper insights, while speeding up the time to market. Partain says the ABB robot has been programmed to do various routines with speed, which will be a game-changer when working with heavy objects in remote locations.

“It really takes a full level of partners,” said Partain. “You’re going to need SI partners, software partners and specialists around different head gear and other types of technologies that HP doesn’t focus on. We’re trying to service the hub to help bring those pieces together and then combine these partners, work with them, develop these solutions and make it simpler for the end-customer to go and adapt these new technologies.”

HPE is finding success with its manufacturing solutions. The company says 81 percent of Fortune 500 manufacturing companies are using HPE data center and infrastructure solutions.
