WATCH: Sophos Says EDR IS A Security Tool That Partners Can’t Ignore

Threats lurk inside networks for hours undetected and many IT professionals don’t know how they got there in the first place. That’s the headline from a new report by Sophos: 7 Uncomfortable Truths About Endpoint Security.

“Threats are continuing to evolve,” said Erin Malone, vice president of North America channel sales at Sophos, noting threats like GandCrab, which differentiates itself through its ransomware-as-a-service-model.

“They don’t even have to be very good at what they do because they are using developers to create the technology and there’s a bunch of organizations using it, so it’s morphing and evolving and different every day,” said Malone.

The survey interviewed 3,100 IT managers worldwide and found that 20 percent of organizations are unaware of how the attack got in. According to Malone, the findings suggest that partners should be investing in endpoint detection and response (EDR) offerings, which help IT managers see what attacks happen and the potential impact they have.

Partners said they are also investing in Sophos’ XG Firewall solution to manage security in the cloud.

“We continue to see more solutions like that really start to land in the public cloud space,” said Jason Rook, vice president of market development at 10th Magnitude, a solution provider specializing in Microsoft Azure cloud and data center migration.

The report was released during RSA, a cybersecurity conference attracting 40,000 people to San Francisco.
