Charlie Tomeo, a 15-year veteran of security vendor Webroot, has left the company, Tomeo said via a LinkedIn post.

Tomeo, who most recently served over four years as vice president of worldwide business sales after a three-year-plus stint as vice president of worldwide channel and technical sales at Broomfield, Colo.-based Webroot, used his post to say his his departure from the company is a new beginning instead of an end.

“This is not the end for me, but a new beginning. I am truly blessed to work with such amazing people. I would like to thank all of the strong leaders, my colleagues at Webroot/Carbonite, the MSP community, RMM partners and channel who made this possible for me and my family. I have built lifelong friendships and will continue to build on them,” Tomeo wrote.

A Webroot spokesperson told CRN via email that Jody Guffey will take on the interim role of vice president of Americas and EMEA channel sales. In the meantime, Webroot plans to continue looking for a permanent replacement to oversee all its global channel efforts, with a goal of aligning the company’s various geographies on corporate initiatives and allow each location to focus more in their respective market, the spokesperson wrote.

Tomeo did not respond to a CRN request for more information on his future plans.

Guffey joined Webroot in January of this year after a four-year stint at cloud data management vendor Carbonite with responsibilities in sales engineering.

Waterloo, Ontario-based OpenText in December closed its acquisition of Carbonite. Carbonite early last year acquired Webroot.

Tomeo was a fantastic person and channel friend, said Jeanne Lisse, controller and co-owner of Madison Computer Works, a Madison, Wisc.-based MSP which has been on Webroot’s MSP advisory board since 2017.

“Charlie was fun to work with,” Lisse told CRN. “We had a lot of respect for him. He was very approachable, and always made sure he followed through on things we talked about. He took care of MSPs and the channel.”

Madison Computer Works worked with both Carbonite and Webroot before they merged, and found the merger smooth in part because of Tomeo, Lisse said.

“Charlie made sure to reach out to us on the advisory board as it was happening,” she said. “He made the transition smooth.”

Lisse has met with Guffey, and said she expects Webroot’s and Carbonite’s channels to be in good hands with him.

“He’s from the Carbonite side,” she said. “Things have been integrating well between them, and having Guffey from the Carbonite side could be a plus.”
